Railroad Operations Committee

If you are a rail fan wanting to do more than sit in your recliner reading about railroad life, put down that train magazine and join SCRPA’s Railroad Operations Committee (ROC).

The group spends two Saturday mornings of each month at the Fullerton Train Museum, conserving SCRPA’s five historic rail cars.

Committee membership is open at no charge to all current Southern California Railway Plaza Association members. It’s a fun way to meet and talk trains with other buffs while helping care for and maintain an important part of Southern California’s railroading’s past.

Our rolling stock is displayed at the Fullerton Train Museum, 200 E. Santa Fe Avenue:

• Santa Fe 1604 Palm Leaf, an 85-foot sleeping car built by American Car and Foundry in 1951 for use on the Super Chief
• ATSF 999110, a Ce-1 cupola style way car built by American Car and Foundry in 1929
• Union Pacific 3752, a CA-3 tall cupola style caboose built by Mount Vernon Manufacturing Company in 1942
• Southern Pacific 4049, a C-40-4 bay window caboose built by Pacific Car and Foundry in 1961
• Union Pacific 5001, an 85-foot Lunch Counter-Diner-Lounge built by American Car and Foundry in 1949
• Union Pacific 6101, an 85-foot Dormitory Lounge built by American Car and Foundry in 1949

All six cars are maintained and conserved to their in-service condition and open for public tours on the first and third Saturday of each month from 9 AM to noon. If you’re not already an SCRPA member, think about joining so you can participate in ROC—working to conserve, maintain and keep these cars in top operating condition.
